Our Review of Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Show in Pigeon Forge, TN

Written by: Sarah Robinette

Hi friends, My name is Sarah and I am a local to the Smoky Mountains. I love to go to dinner show when I can but it has actually been so long since.I have taken the time to go to a show. We were all so excited to go and see one of my favorites. Hatfield and McCoy. This will be the first time we have been since we had kids.

We went to the 7pm show and arrived at 6pm since that is when they told us to arrive. When we got there a lot of people were leaving from the 3pm show so we had lots of spaces open up to park. The day we went to the show it was misting rain. They haven’t opened the doors yet to let this show in since the other show just ended. So we had to stand in the rain for close to 20 mins while we waited. The line was wrapped all around the building waiting for it to open. We did have fun looking at the goats and chickens outside.

The doors opened at around 6:10ish and we slowly got inside. They gave us our tickets outside under a tent right before you go in and we had to go through a metal detector. Once we were inside we got into ANOTHER line. This line weaved all around the massive amounts of souvenirs. They had all kinds of things you can buy such as stuffed animals, soup, farm toys and hillbilly toys. We were thankful to be inside in the warm but this line was at a stand still as well. We were waiting to get our picture taken. Once the line started moving, It didn’t take to long to get to our seats and started getting our food.

Our table was way in the corner in section F at table 2.  We were on the Hatfield side. I didn’t feel like we could see very well but wow… It was a sold out show tonight! We were lucky to even get tickets as late as we did to reserve them.

Our server called everyone who entered “Cousins” well probably more pronounced “cuzins”  They served coke products so we had that to choose from but most of us just got sweet tea and it tasted amazing. We then got our soup and bread to start off with and let me tell you, if you have never had any of Hatfield and McCoy’s soup, you are missing out! We all wanted seconds. I can see why they sell it out in the lobby!

We then got our food and the server presented it to us as “lawn clippings” aka Cole Slaw, “Fried Bird” / Friend Chicken then we got “dental floss” aka corn on the cob as well as “mashed taters” (mashed potatoes) and pulled pork (I wish I can remember what they called it, but it was definitely funny)

The food was really good. We started eating and talking and had a great time with the family before the show started. As we were getting done, we were offered Banana Pudding or Chocolate pudding as desert. We all got Banana except my son, who got chocolate and his was so good! I wish I got that.

They tried to get all the plates taken up before the show started but my kids were slow and had their plates the whole time. As we were finishing up we did get offered to buy our photo we took before hand and I believe it was $25 for 1 photo or both photos for $40 (It was taken on a green screen so we had different backgrounds behind us)

One thing I noticed, was all the people who greeted us, took our photos and did other things, were also the actors, singers and dancers in the show. I thought that was a little different.

We did have some music played while dinner was being served right before it started and that was also a good time to run to the bathroom before the show started.

The show started around 8:30ish and lasted until right at 10pm.

Even though I said our table was at the very side, we could still see the show pretty well. I couldn’t see the background of the set and the back screen, but they did have screens up that videoed that part so we could see. All the actors who spoke or had parts came to the very end of the stage so we could all see.

Overall our seats were fine and we still could see the show well.

If you have never been, the show is basically about two families who don’t get along and they really play into the whole hillbillly life. There are lots of funny parts, dancing, and singing. I personally always love the show. We went maybe 7 years ago and it is the same show we remembered. They have added water into the show and that was very impressive to watch of how the stage comes down and goes into a huge pool they can dive into.

If you do sit up front, they do tell you there is a high chance you will get wet. You don’t get wet when they do the big diving contest but at the end when the dancers dance in it. They definitely try to get the people up front we. We did notice all the people who sat around the stage did have cowboy hats on. I was guessing to help shield the water and as a fun extra perk.

My kids loved the show and have some parts they still talk about. They had a few animals in the show such as dogs and pigs. There is also kinda like a little break in the show where they do get a few people from the crowd that participate in this funny spoon game. It is cute and we liked it. That is also a great time to run to the bathroom if needed.

If you plan to go to this show, plan to be there an hour before it starts and expect to be there close to 3 hours.

Hope this review helped you decide if this dinner show would be a good fir for you and your family. Be sure to explore the blog as I post about all kinds of things in the Smoky Mountains.
