47 Family Friendly Movies from the 90s rated PG

We love to have family movie night and have been getting tired of the same movies over and over again. It is hard for my kids to branch out, but when they learn that these were the movies we liked as kids, for some reason that makes them want to watch them.

Parents will remember some of these classics and love watching it again with their kids.

We also have lists of 90s Movies Rated G Take a look at that list as well.

All these movies listed are rated PG but still use caution as some movies are still not great for small kids to watch.

 

Home Alone

Home Alone is a family comedy about a young boy named Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) who is accidentally left behind when his family takes off for a vacation in France over the holiday season. Once he realizes they’ve left him home alone, he has to fend for himself and, eventually has to protect his house against two burglars who are planning to rob every house in Kevin’s suburban Chicago neighborhood.

 

Problem Child

Ben, who is a good-hearted guy, always wanted a son of his own, but his wife have had no success. The couple adopt Junior, a redheaded trouble maker who quickly makes their lives miserable. Disaster follows Junior wherever he goes, from camping trips that require emergency-room visits to birthday parties that turn into Grand affairs. When Ben’s family tells him to get rid of the boy, he starts to wonder if they might be right.

 

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

In New York, mysterious radioactive ooze has mutated four sewer turtles into talking, upright-walking, crime-fighting ninjas. The intrepid heroes — Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael and Leonardo are trained in the Ninjutsu arts by their rat sensei, Splinter. When a villainous rogue ninja, who is a former pupil of Splinter, arrives and spreads lawlessness throughout the city, it’s up to the plucky turtles to stop him.

 

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II The Secret of the Ooze

This follows the Turtles as they uncover the origin of the ooze that mutated them, white Shredder seeks to exploit it for his own evil purposes. Shredder, having survived his defeat in the first film, learns the ooze’s secret and uses it to create two new powerful mutants, Tokka and Rahzar, to battle the Turtles. The film features a lighter tone than its predecessor and focuses on the Turtles’ search for a new home and their efforts to stop Shredder’s plans. 

 

A League Of Their Own

As America’s athletic young men is depleted during World War II, a professional all-female baseball league springs up in the Midwest, funded by publicity-hungry candy maker Walter Harvey. Competitive sisters Dottie Hinson and Kit Keller spar with each other, scout Ernie Capadino and grumpy has-been coach Jimmy Dugan on their way to fame. Madonna and Rosie O’Donnell co-star as two of the sisters’ teammates.

 

 

Beethoven

When a family decides to adopt a cute St. Bernard puppy, the dad, George soon feels displaced by the dog. Before long, the adorable little dog has grown considerably, leading to household mishaps. While George’s wife and kids adore Beethoven, it takes time for him to see the pooch’s finer qualities. However, Beethoven’s life with the Newton family is jeopardized when a scheming vet tries to kidnap the dog for a deadly experiment.

 

Home Alone Lost in NY

After snarky youth Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) loses track of his father at the airport, he mistakenly gets on a plane headed for New York City — while the rest of the McCallisters fly to Florida. Now alone in the Big Apple, Kevin cons his way into a room at the Plaza Hotel and begins his usual antics. But when Kevin discovers that the Sticky Bandits (Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern) are on the loose, he struggles to stop them from robbing an elderly man’s toy store just before Christmas.

 

Honey I blew Up The Kids

Scatterbrained scientist Wayne Szalinski (Rick Moranis) develops a contraption that makes objects bigger. A routine test goes horribly wrong, however, when Wayne accidentally targets his 2-year-old son with the enlarging ray. The toddler experiences huge growth spurts every time he is exposed to electricity. When their child grows to become over 100 feet tall, Wayne and his wife, Diane (Marcia Strassman), must use a shrink ray to cure his gigantism before he destroys all of Las Vegas

 

 

The Mighty Ducks

After reckless young lawyer Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez) gets arrested for drunk driving, he must coach a kids hockey team for his community service. Gordon has experience on the ice, but isn’t eager to return to hockey, a point hit home by his tense dealings with his own former coach, Jack Reilly (Lane Smith). The reluctant Gordon eventually grows to appreciate his team, which includes promising young Charlie Conway (Joshua Jackson), and leads them to take on Reilly’s tough players.

 

Coneheads

Cone-headed extraterrestrials Beldar (Dan Aykroyd) and Prymaat (Jane Curtin) find themselves in New Jersey after a recon mission for their home planet of Remulak goes awry. Stranded, they are forced to live as typical suburban humans. Beldar gets a job, and daughter Connie (Michelle Burke) grows up to be a typical, if oddly shaped, teenager. When INS agents start investigating the family and Beldar receives sinister orders from Remulak, the Coneheads must decide where their allegiance lies.

 

Dennis The Mennis

Mischievous Dennis Mitchell makes the life of neighbor George Wilson miserable with his overactive energy and inadvertent troublemaking. Because his parents must leave town for work and can’t find a baby sitter for Dennis, they ask George and his wife, Martha, to take care of him. But when burglar Switchblade Sam breaks in to steal George’s gold coin collection, he takes Dennis as a hostage, and crusty George must save the boy

 

Free Willy

When orphan Jesse vandalizes a theme park, he is placed with foster parents and must work at the park to make amends. There he meets Willy, a young Orca whale who has been separated from his family. Sensing friendship, they form a bond and, with the help of kindly whale trainer Rae Lindley, develop a routine of tricks. However, greedy park owner Dial soon catches wind of the duo and makes plans to profit from them.

 

Hocus Pocus

After moving to Salem, Mass., teenager Max Dennison  explores an abandoned house with his sister Dani and their new friend, Allison. After dismissing a story Allison tells as superstitious, Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches who used to live in the house. Now, with the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches’ book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal.

Rookie Of The Year

A freak accident causes 12-year-old Little League player Henry to become such a powerful and accurate pitcher that the Chicago Cubs sign the junior high student to a contract. Unprepared for such a high-pressure environment, Henry falters until aging fastballer Chet Steadman takes him under his wing and teaches him how to play in the big leagues. Meanwhile, his mother’s venal boyfriend tries to sell Henry’s contract to a hated opposing team.

 

The Sandlot

When Scottie Smalls moves to a new neighborhood, he manages to make friends with a group of kids who play baseball at the sandlot. Together they go on a series of funny and touching adventures. The boys run into trouble when Smalls borrows a ball from his stepdad that gets hit over a fence.

 

The Nightmare Before Christmas

The film follows the misadventures of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown’s beloved pumpkin king, who has become bored with the same annual routine of frightening people in the “real world.” When Jack accidentally stumbles on Christmastown, all bright colors and warm spirits, he gets a new lease on life — he plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over the role. But Jack soon discovers even the best-laid plans of mice and skeleton men can go seriously awry.

 

Angels in the Outfield

Foster kid Roger loves the Anaheim Angels, even though they’re the worst team in the major leagues. His estranged dad promises to reunite the family if the Angels make it to the World Series, so Roger decides to ask for some divine help and prays that his favorite team will turn things around. Soon, a real angel named Al shows up in response to Roger’s prayers, and Anaheim’s hopeless coach is shocked to see his team on a winning streak.

 

 

Blank Check

After a crook named Carl Quigley nearly kills 11-year-old Preston Waters by running over the boy’s bike, he mistakenly gives the boy a blank check. The resourceful Preston makes out the check for a million dollars and cashes it. As Preston enjoys spending his windfall, Carl realizes his mistake and goes looking for the boy, while the FBI searches for Preston’s alias, the mysterious Macintosh. Preston soon learns the real value of money.

 

 

Little Giants

Ever since childhood, nerdy Danny O’Shea has felt inferior to his brother, Kevin, a former college football star. Danny runs a gas station, while Kevin coaches the local youth football team. When Kevin’s team rejects Danny’s daughter, Becky, because she’s a girl, Becky convinces her dad to start a rival team, though the city can support only one. To prove himself against his brother, Danny begins coaching his team of misfits for a playoff game.

 

 

Monkey Trouble

9-year-old Eva dreams of owning a pet, but her mother doesn’t think she’s ready and her father is allergic to animals. One day, she finds a lost capuchin monkey, names him Dodger and secretly brings him home with her. It turns out that Dodger has been trained as an expert pickpocket that and his evil master, the gypsy Azro, wants him back. It’s all Eva can do to keep herself and her mischievous new companion out of trouble.

Richie Rich

Richie Rich has every toy any little boy could ever want, in addition to an adoring mother and father. The one thing Richie doesn’t have is friends. When his parents suddenly go missing, Richie suspects an executive  in the family company is to blame. Setting out to solve the mystery, Richie hooks up with a group of kids who prove they just might fill the void in his life, while helping him save his folks.

 

The Flintstones

Big-hearted factory worker Fred Flintstone lends money to his friend Barney Rubble so that he can adopt a baby. As thanks, Barney swaps his IQ test for Fred’s during an executive search program. After getting promoted, however, Fred becomes embroiled in the dastardly scheming of his boss Cliff Vandercave, who enlists his secretary, Sharon Stone, to seduce Fred, angering Fred’s wife, Wilma

 

The Little Rascals

Mischievous youngsters Spanky and Buckwheat lead an anti-girl organization, and they pick their buddy Alfalfa to represent them in an all-important soapbox car rally. When the boys then find their driver canoodling with schoolmate Darla, they decide they must break up the couple. Unfortunately, while Spanky and his pals are busy meddling in Alfalfa’s affairs, their prized race car is nabbed by two young toughs

 

The Santa Clause

Divorced dad Scott has custody of his son on Christmas Eve. After he accidentally kills a man in a Santa suit, they are magically transported to the North Pole, where an elf explains that Scott must take Santa’s place before the next Christmas arrives. Scott thinks he’s dreaming, but over the next several months he gains weight and grows an inexplicably white beard. Maybe that night at the North Pole wasn’t a dream after all — and maybe Scott has a lot of work to do.

 

Casper

Casper is a kind young ghost who peacefully haunts a mansion in Maine. When specialist James Harvey arrives to communicate with Casper and his fellow spirits, he brings along his teenage daughter, Kat. Casper quickly falls in love with Kat, but their budding relationship is complicated not only by his transparent state, but also by his troublemaking apparition uncles and their mischievous antics.

 

Heavy Weights

Gerry is not looking forward to his summer vacation, since he’ll be spending it at a camp for overweight boys in order to shed pounds. Fortunately, a kindly couple, the Bushkins, run the camp and make the process fun and relaxed. However, they’re soon forced to declare bankruptcy and sell the camp to Tony Perkis, a fitness fanatic who turns the camp into a living nightmare of over-the-top training. But the kids plan to fight back.

 

It Takes Two

Sad little rich girl Alyssa and orphaned tomboy Amanda meet at summer camp and discover that they are each other’s exact double. And each girl is worried about her caregiver. Alyssa’s father, Roger, is about to marry a gold digger, and Amanda’s kind social worker, Diane, will be pushed aside if a cruel family adopts Amanda. The girls decide to switch identities to make their loved ones fall in love with each other.

 

Jumanji

A magical board game unleashes a world of adventure on siblings Peter and Judy Shepherd. While exploring an old mansion, the youngsters find a curious, jungle-themed game called Jumanji in the attic. When they start playing, they free Alan Parrish, who’s been stuck in the game’s inner world for decades. If they win Jumanji, the kids can free Alan for good — but that means braving giant bugs, ill-mannered monkeys and even stampeding rhinos!

 

Man Of The House

Texas Ranger Roland Sharp follows a strict code of behavior and has no patience for those who don’t follow suit. When five cheerleaders — Anne, Teresa, Evie, Heather and Barb — witness a murder, Sharp is assigned to keep them from meeting the same fate. But his assignment requires him to go undercover as their coach and live in their house, and so, some ground rules are in order.

 

Babysitters Club

Kristy and her six best friends struggle to make their successful business — the Baby-Sitters Club — into a full-fledged summer day camp. When a group of adults led by their neighbor, Emily Haberman, tries to shut down the camp, the girls must band together to keep their dream alive. Meanwhile, each club member faces her own personal challenges, including divorced parents, a discouraging diabetes diagnosis and an innocent crush on an older boy.

 

The Indian In The Cupboard

On his birthday, Omri is given several simple gifts, including an old wooden cupboard and a small plastic figurine of a Native American man. When he locks the toy inside the cabinet it magically comes to life as a tiny, cagey warrior named Little Bear (Litefoot). The boy then places other toys in the cupboard and they too come to life, even engaging in entertaining battles. But after Little Bear is wounded, Omri begins to understand that his animate toys are not mere playthings.

 

Harriet the Spy

Harriet may only be in the sixth grade, but she’s already found her calling: to be a spy. In a private journal she takes everywhere, Harriet records suspicious activity and keeps a running list of observations on virtually everyone she knows. It seems harmless enough until, one day, someone finds the journal and exposes Harriet’s critical thoughts about her classmates. Suddenly, even her best friends are against her, and Harriet resolves to take revenge.

 

Matilda

This film adaptation of a Roald Dahl work tells the story of Matilda Wormwood a gifted girl forced to put up with a crude, distant father and mother. Worse, Agatha Trunchbull, the evil principal at Matilda’s school, is a terrifyingly strict bully. However, when Matilda realizes she has the power of telekinesis, she begins to defend her friends from Trunchbull’s wrath and fight back against her unkind parents.

 

Space Jam

An evil alien theme park owner, needs a new attraction at Moron Mountain. When his gang, the Nerdlucks, heads to Earth to kidnap Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes, Bugs challenges them to a basketball game to determine their fate. The aliens agree, but they steal the powers of NBA basketball players, including Larry Bird and Charles Barkley — so Bugs gets some help from superstar Michael Jordan.

 

The First Kid

Aspiring Secret Service agent Sam Simms is none too happy when he discovers that he has been assigned to guard teenager Luke, the rambunctious son of the United States president. While Simms and Luke initially clash, they slowly form a friendship, particularly bonding over the young student’s issues with a bully. The pair’s improved relationship, however, doesn’t stop the trouble-prone kid from getting into plenty of antics.

 

Air Bud

In the wake of his father’s death, high schooler Josh struggles to adapt to his new home in Washington state. That all changes, however, when he signs up to be the school basketball team’s manager and discovers that his pet dog Bud, a stray golden retriever he took in, can play the sport amazingly well. After Bud joins the team, Josh’s life brightens considerably, until the dog’s former owner Norm Snively returns in hopes of reclaiming the pooch.

 

Flubber

Professor Philip Brainard is experimenting with new kinds of energy, and he thinks this project will save struggling Medfield College, where his girlfriend, Sara, is president. But when he discovers a lively, rubber-like substance dubbed flubber, he gets so excited, he absent-mindedly misses his own wedding. Sara dumps him, so he tries to use his discovery to win her back; unfortunately, the mischievous flubber seems to have a mind of its own.

 

Good Burger

Dexter, a high school student, is forced to get a summer job at Good Burger to pay for damages he caused to his teacher’s car. When Mondo Burger, a mega-chain, opens across the street and threatens to put Good Burger out of business, Ed, the dim-witted cashier, reveals a special secret sauce he created. This sauce becomes incredibly popular, making Good Burger a success, and Mondo Burger desperate to steal the recipe. Dexter and Ed discover Mondo Burger’s plot to use an illegal ingredient called Triampathol in their burgers to make them larger and sabotage Good Burger’s sauce. They work together to expose Mondo Burger’s scheme and save the restaurant

The Borrowers

Children’s author Mary Norton’s storybook creations, the four-inch-tall family of “borrowers” who live among humans and co-op their possessions. When a crooked lawyer takes over the Lender family’s house, he’s got to reckon with the borrowers therein, who launch a campaign to oust the invader and restore the home to its rightful tenants.

 

Jungle to Jungle

Manhattan broker Michael Cromwell is engaged to fiancée Charlotte but needs a divorce from his estranged wife, Patricia, who’s been living in the Amazon with a native tribe for years. Michael travels to the Amazon and discovers he has a son: Teen Mimi-Siku, who begs to be taken to the city to fulfill a quest for his tribe. At first, things don’t go so smoothly for the kid from the jungle, but soon the boy and his dad bond.

 

Spice World

World-famous pop group the Spice Girls zip around London in their luxurious double-decker tour bus having various adventures and performing for their fans.

 

The Parent Trap

In this update of a 1961 film, twins Annie and Hallie (Lindsay Lohan) are strangers until happenstance unites them. The preteen girls’ divorced parents, Nick and Elizabeth, are living on opposite sides of the Atlantic, each with one child. After meeting at camp, American Hallie and British-raised Annie engineer an identity swap, giving both the chance to spend time with the parent they’ve missed. If the scheme works, it might just make the family whole again.

Mighty Joe Young

As a child living in Africa, Jill Young saw her mother killed while protecting wild gorillas from poachers led by Andrei Strasser. Now an adult, Jill cares for an orphaned gorilla named Joe — who, due to a genetic anomaly, is 15 feet tall. When Gregg O’Hara arrives from California and sees the animal, he convinces Jill that Joe would be safest at his wildlife refuge. But Strasser follows them to the U.S., intent on capturing Joe for himself.

 

Baby Geniuses

The Babyco firm, world leaders in infant care products, has discovered that, prior to the age of two and through `baby talk’, infants can communicate in a highly sophisticated manner. The scientists have a lot to deal with when one toddler escapes from the lab to unite the babies from the outside world.

 

Inspector Gadget

John Brown is a bumbling but well-intentioned security guard who is badly injured in an explosion planned by an evil mastermind. He is taken to a laboratory, where Brenda, a leading robotics surgeon, replaces his damaged limbs with state-of-the-art gadgets and tools. Named “Inspector Gadget” by the press, John — along with his niece, Penny, and her trusty dog, Brain — uses his new powers to discover who was behind the explosion.

 

Madeline

Parisian schoolgirl and orphan Madeline schemes to save her boarding school and home from being closed and sold by its owner, the severe Lord Covington, whose benevolent wife has recently passed away. Madeline’s sweet antics are often a burden to her goodhearted but stern headmistress, Miss Clavel, whose true appreciation of Madeline is revealed when Madeline and a schoolboy named Pepito are kidnapped.

 

Stuart Little

When the Littles go to an orphanage to adopt a new family member, a charming young mouse named Stuart is chosen. While George is initially unwelcoming to his new brother, the family cat, Snowbell, is even less enthusiastic about having a mouse as his “master” and plots to get rid of him. Against these difficulties, Stuart resolves to face them with as much pluck, love and courage as he can muster. In doing so, he shows his beloved new family that great things can truly come in small packages.
